Admin: Atlas LTI (Learning Tool Interoperability)

Atlas can be added to any LTI-compatible Learning Management System as a ‘tool.’ This means schools can embed and view the Atlas unit calendar, with links to the unit planners and lesson planners for the relevant classes in their LMS.

The Atlas LTI is a login shortcut and viewing tool, designed to make it quick for Curriculum Developers and Teachers building classes to refer to their units and lessons. Activity in the LMS will not link directly to data in Atlas. If the user wants to edit Atlas data, there is a View in Atlas link that opens full Atlas navigation. Users can make edits in Atlas here and any changes will be reflected in the LMS after a page refresh.

Here is a list of the Learning Management Systems that we have successfully integrated with so far:

    • Blackboard
    • Canvas
    • PowerSchool Schoology
    • Desire2Learn

If your LMS is LTI compatible, contact us at support@onatlas.com and we would be happy to start the integration process.

LTI User Experience

Atlas LTI Keys can be used to connect with any LMS found here. We have had quite a few questions on what the user experience is after the connection is made, or if we can provide screenshots of what it will look like. Since there are many options for connection, it would be difficult to capture all this information and keep it up to date, as we have no control over the changes being made at the LMS level. In an effort to help answer these questions, here is a description of how the LTI should function in general, after the connection has been made:
  • An Atlas App will appear in the list of apps within your LMS after set-up is complete (For Canvas, Schoology, and PowerSchool, in the left hand navigation bar).
  • When the user clicks the app, they will be logged into Atlas (emails must match in both systems) and taken to their list of courses under My Atlas > My Courses in Atlas within the LMS iFrame (Canvas, Schoology) or in a new tab (PowerSchool).
  • The user can click on a course from their list in Atlas and be taken to the Unit Calendar. From here, the user can click in to view units or lessons.
  • The Atlas LTI is a login shortcut and viewing tool, designed to make it quick for teachers building classes to refer to their units. Activity in the LMS will not link directly to data in Atlas.
  • If the user wants to edit Atlas data, there is a View in Atlas button that opens a new tab with full Atlas navigation. Users can make edits in Atlas here and any changes will be reflected in the LMS after a page refresh.
  • The next time the user comes back to this class in the LMS, and clicks Atlas, it will take them to the course they picked in first login to shortcut the association between the class and a course in Atlas.

Setting Up LTI in your LMS

Schools often reach out to us to help them walk through the process of setting up the LTI on their end. As we set up the first few LTIs we piloted, we collected documentation that we can walk schools through to help with set-up. Click on the links below to view the instructions for each product (we will add to the list as we get more):

Please keep in mind that these guides were created in 2019, let us know if there are updates released and the guides don't work anymore.
