The FACTS Settings page allows System Admins to configure, authenticate, and manage the integration between Atlas and FACTS SIS. Once configured, this integration automatically synchronizes lesson plans and homework assignments from Atlas directly into FACTS SIS for assigned classes, every night.

⚠️ Important Sync Behavior & Requirements

  • Data Overwrite Notice: Lesson data pushed from Atlas will OVERWRITE existing lesson data in FACTS.

  • Email Matching: A teacher's email address in FACTS and Atlas must match exactly for the lesson sync to function.

  • Sync Window: Automated nightly syncs execute between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM US Pacific Time.

  • Feature Activation: Contact Atlas Support or your School Engagement Manager (SEM) to enable this integration on your site.

  • Annual Rollover & Archiving: When your Atlas site archives annually, the sync is automatically disabled. Teachers will need to re-link their new FACTS classes to Atlas courses each academic year.

  • Media Handling: Embedded images are visible in Atlas lessons and will initially remain visible in FACTS lessons. However, if you edit the lesson in the FACTS editor, the images will be removed because FACTS does not support images in lessons.

1. Prerequisites & Setup Workflow

Before configuring the integration settings in Atlas, complete the following initial steps:

  1. Obtain Subscription Key: Retrieve the FACTS Subscription Key for Atlas found on the new FACTS Settings page in Atlas Admin (Admin > FACTS Settings).

  2. Generate FACTS API Credentials: Have a FACTS Admin create a dedicated API key for Atlas inside FACTS Admin (refer to FACTS help documentation for specific steps).

  3. Configure API Permissions: Ensure the newly created FACTS API key is granted the following exact scope permissions:

Permission Scope

Required Access Level

People Read only
School Years Read only
Classes / Courses Read only
Gradebook - Lesson Plans Read + Write
Gradebook - Homework Read + Write

2. Authentication & API Configuration

To establish a secure API connection between Atlas and FACTS SIS, input your credentials in the Admin > FACTS Settings page.

Configuration Fields

  • FACTS District Code: Enter your district's unique identifier assigned by FACTS.

  • FACTS Subscription Key: Enter the Subscription Key obtained from Atlas Admin.

  • FACTS API Key: Paste the API Key generated in FACTS Admin corresponding to your Subscription Key.

Credential Validation & Testing

  • Save: Click Save at the bottom of the credentials section to store your API settings.

  • Test Credentials: Click to confirm that the API key and District Code are valid and that Atlas can successfully authenticate with FACTS SIS.

  • Check Teacher Matching: Runs a diagnostic report identifying matching teacher accounts between Atlas and FACTS based on their email addresses, highlighting accounts that require updates.

3. Sync Scope & Date Parameters

Control which components of your lessons are pushed to FACTS and define the rolling timeframe for published content.

Prerequisite Note

  • Academic Year Matching: Atlas and FACTS must be on the same active academic year for the sync to function.

  • Teacher Class Linking: Teachers must explicitly link their Atlas Courses to their respective FACTS classes (via My Weekly Lessons or the Unit Lesson List) and update these links whenever their class assignments change.

  • Dated Lessons: Lessons must have assigned dates within Atlas to be eligible for synchronization.

Date Range Filters

  • Sync Lessons starting on this date: Set the earliest baseline date (e.g., the start of the academic year or term) from which lessons become eligible for syncing.

  • Days ahead of today to sync lessons: Specify how many days in advance to publish upcoming lessons (value must be between 1 and 30 days; defaults to 7 days).

4. Sync Schedule & Manual Control

Manage how and when lesson content synchronizes between systems.

  • Nightly Sync Toggle: Toggle ON to enable the automated daily sync (runs nightly between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM PT). Admins can toggle this OFF at any time to pause automatic syncing.

  • Sync Now: Click to manually force an immediate sync across all linked classes.

  • Sync Status: Displays the most recent sync timestamp and execution summary (e.g., Last run: 10/9/2026, 2:25:42 PM · 31 classes updated).

FACTS Technical Limitations & Constraints

  • Data Overwrite Behavior: Lesson data pushed from Atlas will OVERWRITE any existing lesson data in FACTS.

  • Email Matching Dependency: Teacher accounts in Atlas and FACTS must use exact, identical email addresses for the synchronization mechanism to function.

  • Rich Media Handling: Embedded images are supported in Atlas and will initially remain visible in synced FACTS lessons. However, if a lesson is edited directly within the FACTS editor, any embedded images will be removed because FACTS does not support images in lesson plans.

  • Annual Archiving & Re-linking: The sync feature automatically deactivates whenever your Atlas site goes through its annual archiving cycle. System admins and teachers will need to re-link their new FACTS classes to Atlas courses at the start of each academic year.

  • Academic Year Alignment: Both Atlas and FACTS must be configured to the exact same active academic year for the synchronization job to process successfully.
