The Manage Course Description Settings page allows administrators to customize how the Course Description appears across Atlas. From here, you can rename the label used in the interface, add a pre-populated template to guide teachers when they write descriptions, and control whether the section is expanded by default in course views.
Rename the Course Description label
In the Custom Name for section:
Edit the singular and plural names for Course Description.
Click Save after each change.
This updates the terminology throughout Atlas to match your school’s preferred language (for example: Course Overview, Unit Summary, etc.).
Add pre-populated guidance text
In the Add pre-populated text to Course Description editor:
Enter the template text that teachers will see when they open the Course Description field.
Use the formatting tools to structure the content (bold, lists, links, etc.).
Typical examples include:
Description
Materials
Pre-requisites
Learning goals
Click Save Label to apply.
This text acts as a scaffold to ensure consistency and clarity across all courses.
Control the default view in courses
In the Course Description in Course Views section:
Check Keep Course Description section expanded in Course views by default if you want the content to always be visible when users open a course.
Leave it unchecked if you prefer a more compact view.
