Lesson Planning is an optional tool. If you do not see it in your Atlas, contact your Atlas Account Manager or submit a request to start activating it.
What can Lesson Managers do in Lesson Planning?
Lesson Planning gives Lesson Managers a Lesson Management page where they can categorise lessons, see detailed information about each lesson and filter to find specific lessons. They can mark lessons as Approved Examples so teachers can find and use exemplary lessons, manage lesson approvals and reassign lessons that have no editors.
Watch the Manage Lessons video.
Make a user a Lesson Manager
All admins have Lesson Manager privileges by default, but not all Lesson Managers are admins. The role is for principals and department leads who need to review and manage lessons without full admin rights.
Go to Admin > Manage Users.
Search for the user, select the arrow icon in the Actions column and select Edit User.
-
Tick Lesson Manager, then select Save.
Lesson Managers then reach the Lesson Planning tools from the Manage Lessons Quick Link on their Dashboard.

- Lesson Managers: My Atlas > My Dashboard, then the Manage Lessons tile in the Quick Links section.
-
Select the Manage Lessons button at the top left of the page, then select Review Lessons.
You can sort the list by District Lesson, Status, Lesson Title, Course, Duration, Submitted To and Reviewed By.
-
Use the filters on the left to narrow the list. The results update as soon as you select away from a filter.
- Search: lesson title.
- Course Name: lessons from specific courses.
- User Name: lessons assigned to a specific user.
- Grade: lessons in courses under a specific grade.
- Subject: lessons under a specific department or subject.
- School: lessons under a specific school.

-
Optionally, tick the boxes below the filters:
- District Lesson(s): lessons labelled as Approved Example Lesson(s). The name may differ, based on the feature name set in Manage Lesson Settings.
- Lessons with no editors: lessons with no assigned editors.
- Lessons with no content: empty lessons.
- Lessons in deleted Courses: lessons in courses that admins deleted in Admin > Manage Courses.
-
Tick one or more lessons, then choose an action:
- Mark as reviewed: you can mark lessons as Reviewed even if they were not submitted for review (shown by the pink pending flag).
- Mark as District Lesson(s): mark lessons as approved example lessons. The name may differ, based on the feature name set in Manage Lesson Settings.
- Remove from District Lesson(s): unmark approved example lessons (name set in Manage Lesson Settings). You then choose to either only remove them from District Lesson(s), or remove them and move them to the Recycle Bin, which also deletes them.
