You can send and receive several types of messages and notifications from wherever you might be working in Atlas. Atlas organizes messages you receive into key channels within the Notifications Feed, click the envelope 2023-01-23_9-14-58.jpg icon at the top panel, next to your account name. This provides a central location to quickly access these targeted and relevant communications.

Inside the Notification Feed, you’ll find four tabs that help you filter and organize updates:

1) All

This is the main feed, use this when you want a full overview of what’s happening. It shows the follwoings in one place:

  • Curriculum updates

  • Comments

  • Activity changes

  • School-wide announcements

2) Comments

Use this when you want to quickly respond to feedback or conversations. Click here to learn more about managing comments in Atlas. This tab shows only:

  • Comments left on your urriculum

  • Feedback from other users

  • Discussions related to lessons, units, or courses

3) Activity

The Activity Channel contains a dynamic, real-time feed of curriculum activity that is applicable to you. Use this to monitor your curriculum engagement and changes. This tab tracks actions such as:

  • Your curriculum being viewed

  • Your lessons or units being updated

  • Attachments added or changed into your curriculum

4) School

This tab shows:

  • School-wide announcements

  • Admin updates

  • Important reminders and notices

Sending School Messages feature is disabled now, and this thread is available only to save the work of a school. It's replaced by the Message Board in the My Atlas Dashboard. Click here to learn more about setting up your Atlas Message Board.

What Each Notification Shows

Each notification includes:

  • Who made the change

  • What was updated or viewed

  • The date and time

  • A direct link to open the curriculum or item

This lets you jump straight to the content with one click.

Notifications Center

It provides a complete history of actions and engagement across the platform. Click the arrow next to the word Notifications to access the Notifications Center

The Notification Center is the central place in Atlas where users can view, search, and filter all system activity and updates related to curriculum, lessons, reports, and school communications.

1) Search Bar

The Search field allows users to quickly find specific notifications by keyword, such as:

  • Course name

  • Unit name

  • Lesson title

  • User name

This is useful for locating past activity or auditing changes.

2) Notifications Feed

This is the main activity stream showing all notifications in chronological order. Each notification displays:

  • Who performed the action

  • The date and time

  • What was updated, viewed, shared, or commented on

  • The category (shown on the right, such as Curriculum Updates or Curriculum Views)

  • A direct link to open the related item

This allows users to quickly track changes and jump directly to the affected content.

3) Notification Type Filter (Dropdown)

The Select… dropdown lets users filter the Notifications Feed by category:

  • All Notifications — Shows everything

  • Comments — Only comment activity

  • Shares — Items that were shared

  • Lessons — Lesson-related activity

  • Curriculum Updates — Changes made to curriculum content

  • Curriculum Views — When curriculum is viewed

  • Reports — Report-related activity

  • School — School-wide announcements and updates

This helps users focus only on the activity that matters most to them.

Public Comments and Private Comments

Comments in Atlas are visible to all Atlas users, or they can be private. Comments are available in any map (Unit Calendar view, Curriculum Map view, and Course Description view), unit planners, lessons, and saved reports.

Features: 

  • Can be replied to, allowing for threaded conversations on a topic.
  • Can attach URLs and upload files (from your computer).
  • Comments in the "Public Comments" tab are visible to all Atlas users. Comments in the "Private Comments" tab are visible to the comment's author only, and any users selected by the comment author in the recipients list.

Leave a Public Comment (visible to all users)

When viewing a map, unit, lesson, or saved report, click the speech bubble in the upper-right corner to access the comments panel. The default tab is Public Comments (visible to all users). 

  1. Write your comment in the box, size limit is 1000 characters. 
  2. Click Add an Attachment to add resources (Website Link, File Attachment) to your comment. 
  3. Click Post to share your comment, Or Discard to cancel it. 
  4. Comment actions: 
    1.  
      • Click the No replies link to prevent replies to your comment. You can later click the Open for replies if you want to allow replies and threaded conversations. 
      • Click the PENCIL icon to edit your comment. 
      • Click the X icon to delete your comment. 
  5. Click X icon at the top right corner of the panel to leave.

Leave a Private Comment 

Private Comments are only visible to the comment's author, and the users selected in the recipients list. 

When viewing a map, a unit, a lesson, or a saved report, click the speech bubble icon at the top bar to access the comments panel. The default tab is Comments (visible to all users). 

  1. Click the Private Comments tab. 
  2. Select who can see your comment by clicking the To: drop-down list. If you leave the list blank, the comment will be recorded as a "Note-to-self". 
  3. Write your comment in the box, size limit is 1000 characters. 
  4. Click Add an Attachment to add resources (Website Link, File Attachment) to your comment. 
  5. Click Post to share your comment, Or Discard to cancel it. 
  6. Comment actions: 
    1.  
      • Click the Close to replies link to prevent replies to your comment. You can later click the Open for replies if you want to allow replies and threaded conversations. 
      • Click the PENCIL icon to edit your comment. 
      • Click the X icon to delete your comment. 
  7. Click X icon at the top right corner of the panel to leave.

Edit and Delete a Comment 

You're only allowed to edit and delete comments you have authored. When viewing a map, a unit, a lesson, or a saved report, click the speech bubble icon at the top bar to access the comments panel. 

  1. Find your comment and click the PENCIL icon to edit your comment or the X icon to delete it. 
  2. Edit your comment in the box, size limit is 1000 characters. 
  3. In Private Comments only, select who can see your comment by clicking the To: drop-down list. You can remove recipients, or add more. 
  4. Click Add an Attachment to add resources (Website Link, File Attachment) to your comment. 
  5. Click Save to share your comment, Or Cancel to cancel it. 
  6. Click X icon at the top right corner of the panel to leave.

Note: Deleting a comment will not unsend the email to the course authors (for comments), or to the recipients, if selected (for private comments).
